Prof. Dr. Xiao Lin Zhao
Professor Zhao obtained his PhD degree in Civil Engineering and Doctor of Engineering (higher doctorate) degree from the University of Sydney (USYD), as well as an MBA (Executive) degree jointly awarded by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and USYD.
Professor Zhao is the Chair Professor of Civil Infrastructure at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to joining PolyU, he was the Associate Dean (International) in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. Before that, he held the Chair of Civil Engineering from 2001 to 2019 and the Head of Department of Civil Engineering from 2008 to 2011 at Monash University, Australia.
Professor Zhao’s current research focuses on high-performance sustainable materials in civil engineering applications and steel-concrete-FRP hybrid construction. He has published 9 books and 400 refereed journal papers and supervised more than 50 PhD students.
Professor Zhao is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. He was selected as Australia’s Top Researcher in the field of Structural Engineering in 2019 and as Australia’s Top Researcher in the field of Civil Engineering in 2021 by The Australian’s Research Magazine.
